Very proud to be involved in the Sino-European Invitational Architectural Exhibition in Shanghai, that will be opened next October 31st at the ROCA Gallery, curated by Liu Yuyang with the partecipation of other 16 Chinese and 8 European firms (Baumschlager Eberle Architekten, Christ & Gantenbein Studio, Christian de Portzamparc, David Chipperfield Architects, Miralles Tagliabue EMBT, MVRDV, Snøhetta, Studio Moscatelli).
Our firm is small, but it tells the story of a great territory, the Brianza District, that in the Post War period became the main propeller of the design culture and the wooden furniture production in our country.
The 22 buildings and the 6 products we selected for this event - the three exhibition buildings for the design furniture in Cantù, the headquarters of several local companies (Porro spa, Caimi Export, De Baggis, Orsogril) and the residential buildings between Milan, Como and Valtellina - represent a mirror of how our territory evolved.
They tell the effects of the economic growth, and the consequent request of new living spaces and more adequate headquarters for the craftsmen workshops, but also the necessity of opening to new markets through the organization of a big international event: the “Selettiva del Mobile”,
that in the X edition was joined by authors as Alvar Aalto, Finn Juhl, Gio Ponti, Ignazio Gardella, Luigi Caccia Dominioni and Vico Magistretti.
The story about the 75 years of our firm ends with the recent project for the requalification of Piazza Libertà in Lissone - in front of the Casa del Fascio by Giuseppe Terragni and in another “city of furniture” - to testify how in this long segment of time our cities passed from the necessity of offering their inhabitants new spaces for living, working and meeting to the equally important need of protecting and enhancing their identity in all its expressions, from the Post War reconstruction to the urban regeneration.
