L’incarico per la progettazione della nuova sede dell’Istituto d’Arte, oggi Liceo Artistico Fausto Melotti, venne affidato dal Consiglio Comunale di Cantù, alla fine del 1954, al gruppo di architetti al tempo operanti nella città ovvero Enrico Meroni, Giulio Moscatelli, Gigi Radice, Alberto Sala. L’edificio è distinto in due zone: un corpo parallelo a via Andina con le aule normali e una serie di corpi disposti ortogonalmente con i laboratori e le aule speciali e la palestra, aggiunta a partire dalla richiesta del comune del 1961. La partitura regolare dell'edificio, evidente nel modulo della finestra e nella marcatura delle campate, unita all'utilizzo di materiali come il vetro ed l'intonaco bianco a vista, riprendono gli stilemi del moderno diffusi in quegli anni.

The commission for the design of the new headquarters of the Municipal Institute of Art, today Fausto Melotti arts high school, was entrusted by the Municipal Council of Cantù, at the end of 1954, to the group of architects at the time operating in the city: Enrico Meroni, Giulio Moscatelli, Gigi Radice, Alberto Sala. The building is divided into two areas: a volume parallel to Via Andina with the normal classrooms and a series of blocks arranged orthogonally with the laboratories and special classrooms and the gymnasium, added starting from the request of the municipality of 1961. The regular rhythm of the building, evident in the shape of the window and in the marking of the spans, combined with the use of materials such as glass and exposed white plaster, reflect the stylistic features of Modern architecture that were diffuse in those years.
