L’edificio, innalzato negli anni Cinquanta in una fase di particolare sviluppo economico, prende il nome dalla antistante Chiesa di Santa Maria, costruita nel 1680 e anticamente parte di un monastero benedettino cluniacense. Il corpo di fabbrica ha una configurazione planimetrica a T, e si allinea col fronte principale su Via Manzoni (una strada in pendenza che si conclude sulla sommità con la piazza principale della città) e con l’altro sulla retrostante Via Galimberti. Realizzato in cemento armato, è costituito da 6 piani residenziali e un piano terra commerciale, inizialmente per un negozio di mobili e successivamente per una banca.

The building, completed during the Fifties in a phase of particular economic development, takes the name from the Church of Santa Maria, on the other side of the road, that was built in 1680 and was anciently part of a Benedictine monastery. It has a T plan configuration, aligned through the main facade with Via Manzoni (a sloping road that arrives in the main square of the city) and through the other with Via Galimberti. Realized in concrete, it is constituted by 6 residential floors and a commercial ground floor, formerly for a furniture shop and afterwards for a bank.
